Revisiting Memes

Now that a lot of old internet quiz memes (well, pgo went through them forever ago) are coming back on Planet Debian, I thought it’d be intriguing to revisit them, to see how things have changed since I last took them.

You are Debian Linux. People have difficulty getting to know you. Once you finally open your shell they're apt to love you.

Last time it was Slackware. Interestingly, I’ve actually had to mess with slackware in the interim (and didn’t like it at all).

You are .mp3 The kids love you. You get along with just about everybody except the music industry. You really make yourself heard.

Last time it was HTML, so apparently I’ve gotten easier to get along with.

What Video Game Character Are You? I am a Light Cycle.

Last time it was a Gauntlet adventurer, I’m not sure what exactly that translates to.

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

Last time it was Obi-Wan, and I count this as an improvement. Sure, I can’t pickup things from across the room anymore, but I’d much rather die by sailing off to the Undying Lands after helping vanquish the evil overlord than take a laser-sword across the neck so some punk farmboy can “find himself.” 😉

Elves are immortal, but can die from illness or wounds. So Elrond didn’t die, he sailed off to the land where gods brought the elves. So it is really better to be Elrond than Obi Wan, because you do not die, and have memory of 7 thousands years.

Well, “leaving [middle] earth never to return” seems to be a pretty decent analogy to death in our bound-to-this-planet present. But fundamentally both of them “graduated” to Heaven, a higher plane, etc., so it’s really about how they got there (Obi-Wan came back as a spirit for Episodes V and VI, after all).

Actually Elrond returned to the land of his ancestors (his father was Earendil, whose mother was Idril, whose father was Turgon, who came from Valinor in the begining of the First Age). There is nothing known about ancestors of Obi-Wan, and even less is known about the origins of this higher plane. So being Elrond has another bonus of having the body and as a company your old relatives and gods, and not being some spirit and a company of Yoda and Anakin Skywalker:)
